A local company that only three years ago expanded from teleradiology to cloud-based medical imaging services is about to transform again. Having just raised $13 million from an outside investor, San Diego-based StatRad, LLC hopes to capitalize on its patented data-streaming technology by introducing a radiology workflow management system that’s secure, reliable and, unlike those of its largest competitors, requires no hardware purchase. “We’re at a very interesting time,” said President Claude Hooton , adding preparations for the new system, combined with strong growth in new accounts for its existing lines of business, have contributed to what is now an “inflection point” for the company. StatRad’s CEO, Dr. Vishal Verma , said a key to the company’s planned mid-2017 launch of the new picture archiving and communication system — known in the industry as a PACS — is the company’s base of more than 100 hospitals already using its cloud-based RadConnect system. “The goal here is to solve all their departmental workflow needs,” Verma said.
